SuperBook Sports Shuts Down Operations in Eight US States 23 July 2024
On July 19, 2024, SuperBook Sports made an important announcement about its operations in the US. The sportsbook announced its plans to exit nine US markets and stopped taking bets in the states.
The nine states affected by the exit are Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Customers in the affected states have been instructed to withdraw any funds from the sportsbook as they go through the closure process.
“We regret to inform you that SuperBook Sports will no longer be accepting bets or deposits in the following states: AZ, CO, IA, MD, NJ, OH, TN, and VA,” SuperBook announced on their X account. “Thank you for being a loyal customer of SuperBook Sports.”
The sportsbook is closing its business because of the US Wire Act. The Act has impacted business by taking away its most popular feature, which led to its failure to grab 0.3% of the revenue share of its eight markets.

What’s Next for SuperBook?
While SuperBook will close operations in nine states, it will continue operations in one state, Nevada. Nevada is popular with the sportsbook because it is where the sportsbook’s NFL SuperContest operates.
The sportsbook had plans to roll out the SuperContest in other states but could not bring in other players from outside Nevada since it would violate the Wire Act.

Other Sportsbook Closures in the US
SuperBook is not the only sportsbook with closed operations in some US states. Almost two weeks before its closure, Betway and SaharaBets announced similar plans to exit the US market.
Betway’s exit plans include six of the same markets as Sportsbook, while SaharaBets includes only one of the same markets.
Additionally, BetFred has announced an exit from Ohio. This comes shortly after their announcement to leave Maryland.
Furthermore, BetFred will end its partnership with the Cincinnati Bengals. It ended because it failed to realise its hopes of a boost to its market share and revenue.
This failure to boost came on the heels of a disappointing revenue share of less than 1% in Ohio.
Despite BetFred’s closure in Ohio, it will still maintain its presence in seven US states, which are Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Ohio has lost three operators within a month.
