Land vs Online Casino Insights

In the UK, 45% of Brits have tried gambling. 48% enjoy an occasional flutter and place four bets a month with an average monthly outlay of £26.98.

Players have varying attitudes when it comes to land casinos. In the UK, 35% of Brits would be inclined to visit land-based casinos and would be more if it were less judgmental. 8% are not likely to visit a casino in the future and half would never dare to set foot in a casino.

1 in 5 avoid casinos due to their fear of not winning and 42% fear asking other knowledgeable players about the rules.

An OLBG spokesperson said: “There’s always people on hand to help you out, like croupiers and other members of staff. And don’t be afraid to ask fellow patrons, too. As long as you’re friendly, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. There’s always the internet, too – although be careful about being on your phone as some casinos can get quite funny about that.”

Of those that would visit land-based casinos, 45% hope to one day visit Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, USA.

Several have not altogether put away gambling because of their fears of land-based casinos but have chosen to venture into the alternative, online casino, to enjoy the thrill of casino games.

A spokesman for Lottoland.co.uk, which commissioned the research, said: “It’s understandable so many people feel somewhat intimidated walking into casinos, especially if they are new to some of the games and don’t want to appear as a newbie.

Some casino games take a certain level of skill and understanding – so it makes total sense that lots of us would prefer to get the practice in from the comfort of our own homes with an online casino, before we hit the floor.”

30% who have confidence challenges find it better when they access online casinos. 29% feel that there is less judgement at online casinos since most players are at their homes and not face-to-face with other players.

Another benefit of online casinos is that players can dress as comfortably as they feel. 33% prefer online casinos for this.

Another 31% prefer online casinos for their anonymity and lack of face-to-face interaction. Rather, they can communicate from behind their screen without any fear.

Games Insights

The main reason players visit casinos is for the games. The study revealed that 32% preferred games of skill rather than depending on luck. This means table games rather than games such as slots were preferred.

Despite this preference, it's startling how many players lack knowledge of casino games. 72% lack knowledge of baccarat, 70% of craps, 48% of blackjack and 36% of roulette.

Slots have 23% and boxing has 37%.

Half of the adults from the 2000 people in the study have never played poker. 34% claim that their nerves would probably get the best of them if they played poker.

Another 28% think their incapability to read other people would play against them. Despite these challenges, 23% would not mind watching even if they are not great.

Only 19% believe they are good at fibbing which would help them succeed.

Players have considerable knowledge about Snaps and solitaire accounting for 62% and 61% of players with knowledge.
