Villareal vs Arsenal Game Preview 29 April 2021

A clash between two sides that have largely underperformed this season, but have excelled in the Europa League. Villareal and Arsenal are clinging on this semi final, and hopefully final with the hope of rescuing their season and fulfilling their goal of ensuring UCL football for next season.

Villareal are in dire need of a win, having slumped from a previous impervious form, to win just two of their last five in all competitions. But this game has an added value considering their current manager, Unai Emery, will want to put one over his previous employees and prove they should’ve stuck with him. Their recent form is far from encouraging, but weirder things have happened this season, and we might be in line for another surprise.

Arsenal on the other hand are consistently inconsistent. At times brilliant, at times unrecognizable, Mikel Arteta has struggled to stamp his brand of football and get players to play it consistently, but time and support are on his side, and we might just see the best of them here. This game is their chance to show that they’re indeed on the path of becoming a better side, and also show their ability to perform when it matters most.

The treatment and suspension tables at both clubs are clean. Well, almost. Only one player from both clubs will miss the game - Iborra from Villareal. Everyone else should be fit and available for selection.

Will we see a clapback from Emery or will Arteta show that the faith shown in him is more than justified? Tune in on Thursday to find out!
